Pfff. Heftig nieuws! Maandag 10 augustus heb ik definitief de knoop doorgehakt. Ik ga niet starten met Jaap op de WK in de dubbel twee.
Afgelopen maanden gingen goed, technisch werden we samen steeds beter. Fysiek gingen we beide erg vooruit. We roeiden finale in Luzern. Echter…. vlak voor de derde Wereld Beker in Luzern (10juli) merkte ik dat ik fysiek minder belastbaar werd. Vermoeidheid, verkouden en een langer fysiek herstel na trainingen en de wedstrijden.
De week rust na de Wereld Beker in Luzern bracht niet echt wat ik er van verwachte. Bij terugkomst met de dokter gepraat en diverse tests gedaan.
Jaap en ik hadden afgesproken dat we in de periode voor het trainingskamp 1 maal daags op de bosbaan gingen trainen en de rest thuis zouden doen. Dat gaf wat lucht en scheelde reistijd van Utrecht naar de Bosbaan.
Vorige week donderdag (6 augustus) heb ik samen met Jaap en John een gesprek gehad over mijn fysieke belastbaarheid en gezondheid. Het ging met mij niet goed. Zaterdag is de equipe vertrokken op trainingsstage naar München om zich voor te bereiden op de WK.
Maandag heb ik besloten niet deel te nemen aan de WK. Ik zie persoonlijk weinig kans dat in deze zeer korte periode mijn belastbaarheid dusdanig toeneemt dat we op niveau kunnen trainen. De toestand van fysieke gezondheid is doorslaggevend voor mijn keuze.
Jaap toont weerbaarheid door zich te storten op de lichte skiff. Zijn coach Lili Wabeke reist morgen (woendag 12 augustus) af naar München om hem de laatste twee weken van het seizoen te begeleiden.
Mijn accu is leeg, ik ga hem thuis in Nederland weer opladen.
Zoals Jaap zei: “Every setback is a Setup for a new comback”!
